Cudos to M. Pavey along with his troop of valiant masochistic cyclists. I have been back and forth across the country at least half a dozen times on both two wheel(motorized...but no raingear and living in tent)and 4 wheel covered and heated. During my trips, I have seen the many other stolid, solitary cyclists doing this pilgrimage and would never entertain the misery.

I would be much more interested in hearing from an intrepid band who have chosen to do such a bicycle trip through the civilized parts of the cycling world in Europe where endless penitential camping would be largely replaced by hostels and excellent restaurants serving up real meals..and a population of folks who would actually look upon maple leaf flagged cyclists as worthy of conversation rather than the typical trans-Canada highway resident who views the cyclist as something between live insane and about to become roadkill...not withstanding the vast number of miles of utterly tedious, monotonous riding through insect invested territory...interspersed by occasional moments of spectacular beauty and utter terro r as one navigates the many 7-10% grades across the country.

Anyone out there who might be interested in a civilized Canadian ride across parts of France, Spain, Italy....I would be interested in looking at the plan. However, I will forgo the sack cloth and ashes of a cross country Canadian ride.
