I was totally enthralled on Friday at the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound as the Austrian sessional group Studio Dan performed legendary counter-culture artist Frank Zappa's "Improvised Concerto for Bicycle, Pre-recorded Tape and Instrumental Ensemble."
Here's the bike as played by percussionist Hubert Brundlmayer.
It's a well-used Surly Disc Trucker, owned by Kitchener's Mohan Thomas, and lent to Studio Dan for the performance.
We all know there is music in the sound of the chain, the shifting gears, the rubber hitting the road. But to have that augmented by cello, violin and other classical instruments, was a real treat.
